AN OPPORTUNITY FOR BUSINESSES TO SHOW THEY CARE
WEEK OF CARING: SEPTEMBER 8 - 13
San Rafael-CA. Are you handy with a paint brush?
Enjoy working outdoors, gardening or landscaping? Would you
like to help your community? Many nonprofits in Marin are looking
for volunteers to work on a long “wish list” of
projects this year. Sign up through your business or corporation
for Week of Caring September 8-13, and lend a helping hand in
your local community. Organized as a partnership between the
Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership (Center), United
Way of the Bay Area and The Volunteer Centers of the Bay Area,
Week of Caring is an annual event that promotes volunteerism
and community involvement among the Marin business community
by providing them with a range of service projects to participate
in.
This year, the Center has recruited nearly 60
projects from a diverse group of nonprofit agencies such as
Girls on the Run Bay Area, Homeward Bound, Davidson Middle School’s
Green Schoolyard Project, Richardson Bay Audubon Center and
Sanctuary, West Marin Community Services, Lark Theatre and The
Redwoods. By helping agencies with their gardening, clean-ups,
building or animal welfare projects, businesses will get a chance
to see their community in a whole new light while at the same
time building a spirit of teamwork and cooperation in their
own organizations.
“The Week of Caring is a valuable event
for both the nonprofit and the business community. This event
offers a unique opportunity for groups of employees to volunteer
together on a community project. The projects are fun, interactive,
and most importantly, have a positive impact on our community,”
states Darlene Fiscus, Volunteer Services and Community Relations
Manager at the Center. “Last year, more than 6,000 people
from 50 businesses in support of 150 nonprofits around the Bay
Area participated in Week of Caring. I can’t think of
an easier or better way to help engage business employees as
volunteers at nonprofit organizations. The whole community wins.”
